I trust Rotarians and their families are enjoying the Summer Experience on Prince Edward Island. Your summer travels may afford you the opportunity to do make-ups & meet new Rotarians at Off-Island Rotary Clubs.
My Salt Lake City Convention presentation provided me with an opportunity to share the RI Convention Experience with you. The RI portion included the Opening Plenary, Daily Plenary Sessions, Luncheons, Workshops & the Closing Plenary. Host Events included an Evening of Sensational Entertainment, a performance by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Rendezvous in the Park & a Western Rodeo.
The third aspect was the Friendship Centre where over 200 exhibitors provided us with information on Rotary Fellowships or sold Rotary-crested items. The sharing of information about Rotary projects and meeting Rotarians and spouses from all parts of the world was a memorable experience for Karen and myself.
The convention workshops included Membership Retention, Club Leadership Plan, Rotary Foundation, Polio Plus Update, Health and Hunger, Water Projects and Making Rotary Fun. There was a great range of speakers including Rotarian Jenny Horton on Polio Eradication, Rotarian Bill Gates (Senior) on Sharing, Rotarian Colleen Doyle on Water Filtration and Instructor Emine Yuzay on Literacy. The accommodation and transportation were top rate as were the Convention venues.
RI President Wilf Wilkinson will focus on four main areas over the next twelve months: Water, Hunger, Health and Literacy. He is also keen on initiatives involving Membership, The Rotary Family, Community Involvement, and his theme Rotary Shares. Once you experience a RI Convention you come away with a true Rotarian spirit as many of you have experienced. Thank you for allowing Karen and I to attend at Salt Lake City.
We had our first Board Meeting on July 16th. Resignations were received from Don Anderson and Richard Vienot as well as a request for a LOA from Roger Craig. As I stated earlier I am very pleased with the composition of the Board as we lead the Club through the next twelve months.
The Committee for 2006/2007 will be struck shortly and I encourage you to support your Committee Chair & Director. Karen and I attended a great Appreciation Night at Camp Gencheff on July 20th. Several other Rotarians were in attendance.
Remember the visit of D.G. Bette Douglas on August 27th and RI President Wilf Wilkinson on September 17th . Register early for the District Convention in Amherst, NS, May 29th-June 1st and have a great Rotary month.
