Donate a Children's Book

The Gift of Literacy Photo by Katie Boldt

Our club donates books to elementary school libraries in our local area to help promote literacy. When we have our weekly club meeting, rather than give the guest speaker a plaque as a gift of thanks we donate a children's book in their name. In this way we have been able to gift libraries with hundreds of quality children's books. In these days of budget cutbacks, the libraries and the kids they serve can really use the help.

The idea of this page is to extend that program by giving you the opportunity to easily and conveniently donate a book. Through Amazon.ca you can choose & donate a book from the Rotary Club of Charlottetown's Book Wish list. At the Amazon site we put together a "Wish list" of quality children's books. Most are modestly priced. We have included numerous "Best Sellers" plus some classics. The "Wish list" makes it simple for you to donate a book (or two or three). Any that you purchase will be shipped to us and we will see that your gift finds an appreciated home in a children's library.

We will inscribe the book to acknowledge your gift. The young children seeing it will know you care that they have good books to read. To protect your privacy the Amazon system only provides us limited information about Donors. For instance, they provide just your name & city but not your address or phone number. If you advising us of your gift & your postal address we would be pleased to send you a letter expressing our thanks and letting you know which library has received your book. By sending us an email about your gift, you can also advise if you'd prefer the book to be inscribed in the name of someone else or in memoriam to a lost loved one.

Early exposure to books can instill a love of learning and a desire to understand our world better.
