The Charlottetown Rotary Club has two distinct, locally-controlled, Foundations from which it provides support to helping organizations (not individuals) here in PEI. Club members also support a third foundation, the Rotary International Foundation, that focuses on international humanitarian projects.
- The Rotary Club of Charlottetown Foundation
- The Rotary Club of Charlottetown Literacy Foundation
The Rotary Club of Charlottetown, in partnership with the Province of Prince Edward Island and the Prince Edward Island Literacy Alliance, established the Rotary Club of Charlottetown Literacy Foundation in September, 2005.
One of Rotary International’s long-term goals has been the improvement of literacy throughout the world. The establishment of our Literacy Foundation is one of the ways Rotary can help to improve literacy in PEI. The purpose of the Foundation is to make funds available to charitable groups which conduct literacy projects and activities in PEI.
The Foundation has received endowments from the Province of Prince Edward Island, the PEI Literacy Alliance and the Rotary Club of Charlottetown.
The Foundation is incorporated and the affairs of the corporation are managed by a Board composed of representatives of the founding partners as follows: Rotary Club of Charlottetown: Wayne Fudge, Harry Love (Treasurer), Lorne Moase (Chair), James Travers; Province of Prince Edward Island: Barbara Macnutt; PEI Literacy Alliance: Catherine O’Bryan (Secretary).
It is the goal of the Foundation to build its capital fund as quickly as possible in order to generate significant interest that can be made available for literacy projects and activities now and in future years. Accordingly, the Board welcomes financial support from various sources including the federal government, other foundations, individuals and companies to enable it to carry out its purpose.
