Our Digital Projector

The Club purchased a NEC VT490 digital projector in January 2007 with assistance from Microage Computing in Charlottetown.

Usage Rules:
  • Only for official Charlottetown Rotary Club business
  • Not to be loaned to any other Club or agency, under any circumstances
  • Contact the Information Committee Chair for use

Role of the Meeting Chair-of-the-Day:
Contact the ahead of time to make necessary arrangements. Let the Delta know ahead of time that your speaker will be giving a digital presentation. On the day of the meeting the Delta will set up the screen, extension cords and a table for the laptop/projector. Arrange for a Club member to set up the projector on the day of the meeting. Most outside speakers who come with a laptop already know what to do.

Usage:
  • It's as simple as attaching the power cords for the laptop and projector and plugging them into the extension cord, attaching the data cord between the computer and projector (blue ends on the cord, projector and laptop), and turning them both on.
  • The remote control is only for projector settings, not changing slides. Full control requires an optional mouse attachment that we do not have yet, so someone will have to manually advance the slides for the speaker.
  • The only trick is manually removing the keystone effect caused by tilting the projector's beam up at an angle: it is easy to do with the projector's menu system. using the remote control.
  • The computer and projector usually set up automatically after they are plugged in, but if the image isn't quite right then press the image adjust button on the top of the projector. It is rarely needed.
  • To cool the bulb at the end of the meeting: press the power button on top of the projector and follow the simple instruction on the screen. Wait for the fan to stop running before unplugging the projector to pack it away (takes a few minutes only).
Specifications:
  • 2000 ANSI lumens
  • SVGA 800x600 native resolution
  • Quick startup to begin presenting in seconds.
  • Manual keystone correction.
  • Mini manual in the kit bag.
  • Full manual on the CD in the kit bag.

The kit bag includes the projector, manuals, a power cord, data cord, and remote control.

Unfortunately it is true that all too often PowerPoint presentations really do suck. The good news is they don't have to. This book can help!
